Social Justice Tools
Social Justice is the concept that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, privileges, and opportunity.
All people means all of us, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion or disability.
Intersectionality is a foundational concept in social justice that highlights how people's identities—such as race, gender, class, disability, and more—interact in complex ways. It emphasizes that systems of power and oppression do not act independently but work together, creating overlapping and compounded forms of inequality. A social justice framework uses intersectionality to ensure that efforts toward equity and liberation address the full scope of people’s experiences, especially those most marginalized.
Solidarity is a core principle within a social justice framework that builds on intersectionality. It reflects a deep recognition that while people may experience oppression in different ways, their struggles are connected. Solidarity calls for standing together across differences, committing to collective action and mutual support in the pursuit of shared liberation.
“Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
